AI Data Center
The innovation cycles for AI data centers as well as co-design specialization can boost performance but trade off supply chain strength, increasing costs and reducing efficiency. To solve this challenge, the industry must find commonalities and an evolvable approach to AI infrastructure as it did for cloud data centers in the OCP Community. Most hyperscalers signed an open letter published by the OCP Community to encourage more open collaboration for more fungible data center physical facilities and grid interconnect, along with more open IT hardware for AI and systems management specifications. In this panel, we’ll recap why open source has proven successful in data centers and discuss the opportunities and challenges for AI data centers. We will examine where the infrastructure harmonies lie in terms of low-hanging fruit for open source and standards; also where it will take time to mature and converge; and where it will be important to create agnostic interfaces for competing closed alternatives. Finally, we will discuss how open systems for AI are being adopted and what impact they have, from hyperscalers to neoclouds as well as enterprise deployments.
