Alex Trafton

Senior Vice President, Security & CISO, Core42

Alex is the Senior Vice President, Security and CISO for Core42 (a G42 company), a sovereign cloud and AI infrastructure company based in Abu Dhabi, UAE, where he is responsible for information and physical security of Core42's UAE sovereign clouds and AI data centers.

Alex previously served as Group Senior Vice President for Technology Risk at G42, where he led cybersecurity and export control compliance for ten G42 operating companies focused on various portions of the vertical AI technology stack from data centers to fundamental research to commercial applications. He led the implementation of the G42 Regulated Technology Environment (RTE), a security program for AI data centers running export-controlled U.S. advanced semiconductors. The U.S. State Department called the RTE "the gold standard" for securing critical U.S. AI technologies. The RTE underpinned the U.S.-UAE AI Acceleration Partnership signed in 2025 and the Commerce Department’s final rule elevating the UAE to country group A5 in the Export Administration Regulations in 2026.

Alex has over 15 years of experience in cybersecurity and Governance, Risk, and Compliance. Prior to joining G42, Alex was a Senior Managing Director in the National Security, Trade, and Technology practice at Ankura Consulting Group. In that role, he served as the cybersecurity advisor developing national security mitigation controls for over $40 billion in U.S. technology transfers and foreign direct investment into U.S. technology companies.
