Mu earned his PhD in Computer Science from Carnegie Mellon University and spent over a decade building ML infrastructure at the intersection of research and production. As Principal Scientist at AWS, he led the development of large-scale machine learning systems and co-created Apache MXNet, one of the most influential open-source deep learning frameworks. He also served as Principal Research Architect at Baidu’s Institute of Deep Learning. Mu co-authored Dive into Deep Learning and has published across top venues in theory (FOCS), machine learning (NeurIPS, ICML), computer vision (CVPR), and systems (OSDI). At Boson AI he leads the development of the Higgs model family and the company’s core technical architecture.
