Hans Royal
Hans Royal is the creator of the Compute Heat Rate (CHR), a framework for measuring the maximum electricity price AI compute can sustain while remaining economic. His research has been cited by PJM Interconnection and other leading powermarket institutions and now underpins RP Energy’s work helping utilities, investors, and data center operators navigate the collision between AI growth and electricity markets.
Hans has spent nearly two decades building businesses at the intersection of energy, markets, and corporate strategy. He built and led businesses spanning corporate renewables, supplychain decarbonization, and tax-credit investing, with work encompassing hundreds of transactions and more than 25,000 MW of wind and solar development worldwide.
He writes and speaks on AI infrastructure, electricity markets, grid flexibility, and energy strategy. His work and commentary have been featured in Reuters, the Associated Press, Latitude Media, RTO Insider, Utility Dive, Data Center Dynamics, and other industry outlets.
