J Metz, Ph.D., is Chair of the Ultra Ethernet Consortium (UEC) Steering Committee and Technical Director of Systems Design at AMD. He has been deeply involved in the development and industry adoption of Ultra Ethernet, helping guide the consortium’s work on an open, high-performance Ethernet architecture designed for AI and HPC scale-up and scale-out networks. His work spans networking, storage, data movement, and accelerator-centric system architectures, with a particular focus on how open industry standards can address the rapidly evolving demands of AI infrastructure. Metz also serves as Chair of the SNIA Board of Directors and has held leadership roles across numerous industry standards organizations.
