Max holds two master degrees, one in Computer Science with specialization in hardware design for High performance computing networks from the University of Mannheim and one in Physics with specialization in semiconductor device physics from the Karlsruhe Institute of Technology. He also holds a PhD in Electrical Engineering from the University of Heidelberg with his doctoral father Prof. Dr. Ulrich Brüning being one of Europe’s leading experts in the field of high-performance computing and computer architecture. Max’ focus during his PhD lay on novel mixed-signal design and verification methodologies specifically targeting high speed SerDes IP.

Max has 10+ years of experience in the semiconductor industry and played a central role in building up the mixed-signal design and architecture teams of EXTOLL, a leading SerDes IP company based in Mannheim, Germany. His responsibilities covered a large vertical stack in the field of broadband communication systems, including but not limited to the definition of hardware interfaces, software APIs, IP architecture conception, full-custom analog and mixed-signal design in deep submicron process nodes, hardware prototyping, PCB and package design as well as advanced mathematical verification strategies for broadband systems with complex equalization and clock data recovery structures.

Max joined Salience in February 2023 where he is heading the System Architecture team and is working on novel concepts to AI workload emulation, OCS based networking in AI clusters and fast optical circuit switching.
