Sergio M. Loureiro

VP, Global Data Center Operations, AWS

Sergio is currently the vice president of Global Datacenter Operations at Amazon – AWS where he leads the teams responsible for ensuring 24/7 operational performance of the overall portfolio of AWS datacenters.

Prior to this role, Sergio was the Vice President of Core Operations at Microsoft Cloud Operations + Innovation, driving the growth of the Azure Cloud globally. He oversaw End-to-End Data Center Delivery, Cloud infrastructure Physical Security, Environmental, Health & Safety and Governance; Risk Management Assurance and Compliance; Talent Workforce, Learning & Development and Sustainability and Community Development.

Sergio was also vice president, Operations at Carrier Global Corporation, where he led Global Operations, including responsibility for Global Supply Chain, Manufacturing operations, Quality, EH&S, and Product Safety to improve operational efficiency across the entire footprint. 

Prior, Sergio was also vice president, Enterprise Capacity & Materials Planning Strategy, at Pratt & Whitney with responsibility for enterprise-wide inventory and operations-planning process, aligning forecasted market demand to operational capacity, including the development of predictive and prescriptive digital tools for enterprise-wide decision support. Before that, Sergio was vice president, Manufacturing and Module Center Operations, leading and assuring the quality, delivery, capacity expansion and cost performance for all P&W's manufacturing sites and engine centers. Prior to that, he was vice president, Global Supply Chain, where he led all supply chain activity for the company. Prior to his Global Supply Chain role, Sergio was vice president, Supplier Quality and vice president, Strategic Sourcing, where he established collaborative supplier relationships, negotiated and secured more than $21 billion in supplier contracts and leveraged his technical background to improve supplier performance.

Before joining Pratt & Whitney, Sergio worked at GE to developed foundational, margin-enhancing and disruptive technologies in structural, optical, magnetic, porous, luminescent and sensing technologies.

Sergio earned a Licenciatura in Chemistry from the University of Lisbon, a Ph.D. in Physics from the Université Joseph Fourier and CNRS in France and two post-doctoral appointments at NIMS-Japan and Princeton University. Sergio has received 36 patents for his work and has written more than 50 publications including one book chapter. He is also a member of the UMBC Department of Mechanical Engineering industrial advisory board.

Sergio is a passionate global executive, deeply fluent in Engineering and Technology, Supply Chain, Lean Manufacturing Operations and Continuous Improvement, Quality, Product Safety, Environmental Social Governance, and Customer Experience.

He led transformational initiatives driving over $1B in savings, and complex global operations with over 50 manufacturing sites, 18,000 unionized and non-unionized employees, with CAPEX budgets more than $800M, and large integrated supply chains with over 6,000 direct suppliers and multiple 3PLs. He is experienced in acquisitions and divestitures, including having worked in a successful $20B spin-off. He has significant experience in the aerospace and defense industries as well as commercial building systems and Tech. Sergio uses change management strategies to build a culture of continuous improvement, drive operations and company transformations and challenges the status quo. He drives efficiency, productivity, and cost optimization in support of business goals and growth. A dynamic, results-oriented leader who manages senior level direct reports and partners with internal and external stakeholders to develop integrated customer-oriented solutions. Sergio excels at collaboration with all levels of an organization, and leads global, cross-functional, multi-cultural teams. He is a recognized thought leader, with strong problem-solving skills, networking, and relationship-building abilities.
